In the last couple of weeks here in Ireland we have been so blessed with blue sunny skies and temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees. While this weather is absolutly fabulous, we are not used to this and therefore we are not prepared. I'm here to share with you my summer essentials that I believe should get you through these sunny days.
Sun Cream
I cannot stress how important it is to wear sun cream, especially as the majority of Irish people will burn as our bodies are not equipped to cope in these high temperatures. What most people don't realise is that it's not the heat that will make you tan or burn, but rather the sun rays. So be extra cautious on days that there may be a nice cool breeze as most people would neglect suncream on those days and end up burning badly. Wearing suncream will not prevent you from getting a tan, only sunblock will, so no excuses girls! :) My favourite suncream is Malibu as it smells devine. You can pick this up at any supermarket or pharmacy.
From Penneys best to Ray Bans, sunglasses are sunglasses, and apart from being incredibly cute and stylish, they are a necessity in the sun. Sunglasses protect the most delicate area of your body, your eyes. UV light from sun rays can cause significant damage to eyes if they are not protected by sunglasses. They are the number 1 sign of ageing and can cause cataracts, an eye disease where the eye becomes opaque.
Lip Balm
Just like the rest of your skin, your lips also need a lot of protection against UV light from sun rays, which is why it's extremely important to use a lipbalm with SPF. This will help keep your lips looking and feeling soft and hydrated, and super pretty too which is always a plus! :) I recommend the balmi lipbalm collection as they have SPF. They come in many different colours and flavours, and their unique design and shape is very funky and cool for the summer. Currently I am using the mint green colour which has a minty flavour. I purchased mine online from beautymatters.ie
Moisturiser - Body and face
Moisturiser is very important during hot weather to keep your skin soft and hydrated. It provides your skin with all the nutrients needed for your skin to feel as healthy and good as it can be. Moisturiser is necessary to maintain a good complexion and prevent dry skin. My favourite moisturiser is Kaeso Balm
Mint Hydration which I always purchase at a beauty supply shop. It comes in a big bottle with a pump which will easily last you over 3 months, and it's very inexpensive at
about €10.
Waterproof Mascara
This is not exactly a summer essential but can come in handy for those of you who do not like to leave the house without makeup, rain or sunshine. Waterproof mascara is great for the hot weather because you tend to swear more which can cause your makeup to run. Also while at the beach or pool you can now dip in for a swim without worrying about black streaks running from your eyes. I use the collection 17 waterproof mascara as I feel it does the job just as well as the more expensive brands.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the hot weather :)
Love,
Lorna xxx
