Lets take a step back - 1950's ♡

The 1950's era had a huge impact on the fashion world. With fashionistas such as Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and of course the stunning Audrey Hepburn moving forth in the fashion world and becoming what we know today as THE fashion icons. Marilyn and Audrey especially can be seen everywhere, from posters to wallpaper, to blankets and towels, Tshirts and pyjamas, you name it - they're on it! With the availability of more varietys of fabrics and patterns, women became more fashion focused and wanted to express themselves through there style. The 50's was all about workimg with what you had and not pushing yourself to achieve a 'size zero' body that the fashion world is shoving in our faces today by using stick thin models to advertise their clothing. No, the 50's wash all about working those curves! But no matter how much many of us adore and idolise them, only a few of us look up to them and incorporate their elegance and class into the way we dress and look. This whole society is totally obsessed with becoming stick thin, having a flat stomach, thigh gap, hipbones, etc.. and I blame todays fashion world who seem to promote this carry on by using stick thin models and photoshop to make them 'perfect'. While frilly frocks, long dresses, and elegant gowns was desired back then, to be seen wearing that now would set heads turning, and not in a good way.... Until now! Girls, the 50's is back and better than ever ♡

In the past few years 1950's inspired style icons have appeared and have been welcomed with open arms. This era has been made popular again through stars such as Ariana Grande, Megan fox and of course the beautiful Lana Del Ray, who brings the style of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe back to life with a modern touch.

How to achieve the 1950's look easily?

Think natural. It's all about a flawless complexion with defined and lined eyes, emphasised eyebrows and big bold lips. It's about working with what you have and not overdoing it. HD brows is a brilliant way to create and shape your eyebrows to suit your complexion, and helps you to achieve that natural, defined look. Cara Delevingne is known for sporting her big, bold, natural eyebrows. Bold colours such as reds, pinks and oranges are brilliant to really define your lips and take you back to that 50's era. Always use a lip liner when trying to achieve this look to give your lips more definitition and to make them appear larger.

Moving on to style - it's all about less is more; and this time I mean less skin, more clothes. It's time to cover up girls and become those classy and elegant ladies we all truly are. Floral is huge right now and can be seen frequently on the likes of Ariana Grande who incorporates it on and off stage, and she looks stunning. Big, puffy dresses are in and look fabulous - a definite must have for a beautiful day out at the races or even for an upcoming wedding. This style is completely evident on the beautiful Lana Del Ray. If dresses aren't for you then long shorts and skirts are huge right now. You could incorporate and long skirt with a shirt tucked into it and a blazer/denim jacket for a normal, everyday 1950's look with a modern touch. I picked up a beautiful mango coloured pair of shorts in Benetton and paired it with a cute cream crop to add a modern touch and received so many compliments ♡

How to incorporate 1950's fashion into everyday wear without looking like try to hard 50's fanatic? The 50's wasn't all about skirts and dresses either, it also took with it high waisted jeans, shorts, crop pants, etc. You can easily incorporate this into your everyday style. Pair some skinny crop pants with your favourite chiffon skirt button up to the top and add a blazer for a modern touch, or grab a pair of high waisted jeans and striped tshirt. It's all about the HighWaisted look with shirts button all the way, plain simple Tshirts, baggy jumpers, socks and dolly shoes. Here's some everyday 50's inspired outfits:

1950's Marilyn Monroe inspired bikinis could be seen everywhere this summer and they looked amazing. The HighWaisted bottoms really emphasised the 1950's body to give curve and definition, leaving you feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin even on the beach. Many celebrities also sported these bikinis this summer, such as Tulisa and Taylor Swift.

The 1950's also brought with it some stunning hair-dos which can be seen on and off the red carpet lately. Natural, sleek curls are beautiful and can be easily achieved the traditional way - by rollers. These can be seen on the likes of Lana Del Ray and Megan Fox and they truly do look so elegant, classy and effortless. Big, volumized up-dos are also huge right now and really do add that finishing touch to an elegant/casual outfit.

Girls, dressing like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, etc... does not have to be expensive. You can pick up many 50's inspired bits and pieces in all the high street stores, so there really is no excuse to not take the plunge and add some class and vintage to your wardrobe! Take a look around the shops the next time your out and pick up a few bits and pieces, and I guarantee you'll be looking like a Audrey Hepburn look alike strutting your stuff down the Main Street ♡

Love,
Lorna xx
